Anything For You, My Child

A poem

I would rip out all of my hair
and walk across broken glass

I would carve the heart out of my chest —
I would take all of your pain and so much more

I would do anything for you, my child
to keep you alive

But I will wash my hair
and walk barefoot across the grass

I will listen to the beating in my chest —
I will smile as I dance across the floor

I will take care of myself for you, my child
for both you and I should thrive
