Let you go, must I — A poem

Sitting here in the light of day
in my thoughts, alone, you stay

when the strings flowing from my breast
are drawn to the rhythmic beating in your chest.

Thoughts of you make my synapses dance
but neither fate nor muse let us have that chance.

To myself, I won’t lie
so let you go, must I.

Caught in each other’s gravity, we were pulled together
for the briefest of moments, but destined for never

How then you opened portals in my eyes
where I could feel the clarity of your skies

Never lovers, not one hazel day
where we could let our worries fall away

and get to know the person behind the superficial peel—
But now it’s time for me to heal.

Our lives diverged.
Revolving around different sons, our fates emerged.

Our stories clashed, like black and blue,
I am left, if only I knew.

Here in the dusk awaiting the magic of twilight blue —
I release the idea of you.
